White Sage Benefits
The Indigenous tribes have burnt white sage for hundreds of years in ceremonies to cleanse, purify, heal, and clear negative energies.
History shows us that sage has been used to heal, protect, and increase wisdom; the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans are said to have used it for medicinal purposes and its root stem from the beginning of all medical calendars.
Sage belongs to the Salvia plant family, whose name derives from the Latin word salvere, which means to heal.
Sage has had a number of scientific studies conducted on it, and findings show that low air quality is linked with some health issues and that burning sage in such conditions can help cleanse the air by removing harmful bacteria, fungi, and viruses that can be lingering around in such spaces. Other research shows White sage has antioxidants, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that promote overall good health.
Remember
If you are asthmatic or have a respiratory condition, you need to be careful when inhaling smoke, as to not get irritations. Depending on the person and condition you may find it more beneficial to wait for the room to disperse before entering the room.
White Sage
As well as cleaning the air you breathe, white sage has shown in research to benefit your mood, it can also help you get a good night’s sleep depending on the variation of sage you burn.
Smudging has a connection to mindfulness and can have the same benefits as meditation because of the ritualistic way the sacred sage is burnt. It promotes a sense of peace and calm and therefore brings clarity to your thoughts.
As we have stated in other posts, the act of smudging can be as simplistic or as complex as you wish and of cause depending on what you are trying to achieve.
